The Ri5 profile: Adele D'Silva, Jobsgopublic

Adele D’Silva, senior client partnership manager at Jobsgopublic, is a CIPD and REC qualified HR professional and recruitment strategy expert with a passion for helping education institutions attract and recruit the best possible candidates.

Before joining Jobsgopublic, she spent 15 years developing and implementing recruitment strategies linked directly to school improvement. This included 11 years working at London Borough of Havering as part of the education HR department.

During this time, D’Silva was also a lead advisor for Safer Recruitment, ensuring that education institutions’ recruitment processes were in line with government legislation and best practice.

In her spare time Adele is a chair of governors for a federation of schools, all of whom recently improved their Ofsted rating.

How did you first get into the industry?

18 years ago, after sending in my CV to a recruitment agency, they offered me a job as a recruitment assistant and I’ve been in recruitment on all different sides ever since.

Would you do the same again?

Absolutely; recruiting the right people is the most important decision any organisation can make. I love helping them make the right decision.

What would you do if you didn’t do this?

Probably a politician, I wanted to be Prime Minister when I was at uni!

Who are your favourite people from the industry?

It’s a bit cheesy, but working with the team at Jobsgopublic as a client - they provided such a great all-round service, I would choose them over and over again. That’s why I’ve joined them!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career?

To be successful, do something you love.

And what piece of advice would you give somebody starting out in the sector?

To understand the value you add, it’s more enjoyable to do something when you feel it’s making a difference to someone.

You’re entertaining industry contacts. Where do you take them, and why?

A belly-dancing restaurant - a real ice breaker when someone is dragged up to dance!

Best habit – Yoga
Worst habit – Too much wine

What’s your biggest achievement – career or otherwise?

My children – the greatest teachers of what really matters.

Who’s your biggest hero, and why?

Emmeline Pankhurst - without her I might have been doing housework all day!

What single fact would surprise people the most about you?  

My great-grandmother invented Maynards Wine Gums.
