Ri5 Profile: Vicky Turner

Ri5 Profile: Vicky Turner

Vicky has worked at Ri5 since its inception over 18 years ago.  She started putting this profile together 8 years ago, and has finally handed it over.

How did you first get into the industry?

My dad (Kevin Turner) used to drag me into the office with him during school holidays to stop me from dossing with my friends.  At the time he was at Royds and I did the filing.  But I did get to meet some really great people: Ian Elliot, Ray Coking and Olive in the accounts department.

What was your first job in rec comms?

This one!  Just over 18 years ago I was cajouled into helping set up the Ri5 databases.  One of the dullest tasks I’ve ever had to undertake in my life.

Accident or design?

Pure accident.  I was working at Diageo full time, with a one year old daughter and pregnant with my second. Clearly Kevin and Bob (Anthony) thought I had too much spare time on my hands in the evening...

Would you do the same again?

Probably not. ;)

What would you do if you didn’t do this?

I'd love to make stuff.  I recently made four dresses for a Royal Wedding party my friends and I were attending ....

Proudest achievements

Professional: working with my dad for the past 18 years – there’s not many people who will have stuck it out as long as we have.
Personal: bringing up two amazing daughters

Favourite industry colleague and why?

Any of the gang who I met when I worked at Wunderman during the 90s. A terrific team of people who introduced me to the joys of working hard and playing harder.

Why we love social media?

It’s a quick and easy way to keep up with friends/family/business

Why we hate social media?

Way too addictive

Perfect weekend?

A relaxing afternoon in La Rascasse garden drinking rose, followed by a BBQ cooked by my boyfriend Francis.

Something or someone for Room 101?

People that whistle. It’s very selfish to believe that everyone around you wants that tune you’re murdering in their heads too.  And, because I can, I'm adding a second item: the over-use of exclamation marks!!!!!!!

Favourite sport (participant)?

Running. Two years ago I couldn't run for a bus, but I've just completed my 75th Parkrun.

Favourite sport (spectator)?

Cricket. And I know that will shock many of my friends and family  – but my parents apartment overlooks Kent County Cricket ground and I really enjoy the shindigs they put on when there’s a twenty-twenty game.  Not that I end up watching any of the cricket, I tend to keep everyone's glasses full.

Holiday – sun/sea, ski, safari, or culture?

Yes please. Any of the above, except the safari option – don’t fancy getting chased by lions.

Three words to describe yourself?

Creative, organised and bossy.

Guilty pleasure?

Frazzle sandwiches.

Any brushes with fame?

Whilst working at Sales Promotion agency IMP, I had to escort Mr Wimpy around an event. He had big comedy feet.  More excitingly, Martha Reeves once dedicated a song to me at a concert: I can’t remember which song as I may have been a little tipsy. Oh, and I was once a ballgirl at Beckenham Tennis Week.

What single fact would surprise people the most about you?

I sleepwalk. On one occasion my boyfriend and I were staying with one of his clients in Florida.  In mid conversation I fell asleep (wine may have been involved), got up, and promptly walked into some closed glass patio doors.  A separate incident has given me a cool Harry Potter scar on my forehead.

Thanks goes to Vicky for finally finishing her profile.  If you would like to nominate someone for an Ri5 Profile, or participate yourself, and can put it together in a shorter timeframe, please contact the Ri5 Editorial team at editorial@ri5.co.uk.

Frazzle sandwiches eh? Not that I need to add any more guilty pleasures to my list, but for this... I could be tempted!
