Ri5 Profile: Louise Grimes

Ri5 Profile: Louise Grimes

Louise is the University Partnerships Manager at Smart Resourcing Solutions where she supports universities with the hugely popular large-scale assessment simulations that they run, usually at Premier League football stadia.

How did you first get into the industry?

I graduated with a HR degree and started working as a HR generalist within the Civil Service. It was some years later when I joined John Lewis Liverpool that I specialised solely in Recruitment & Selection and I haven’t looked back!

Would you do the same again?

In all honesty yes. Every job, every role, every assignment has provided me with new experiences and skills and equipped me to do what I do today. I am probably in the minority of people who can say they love what they do.

What would you do if you didn’t do this?

Now that is a difficult one. I would like to say something exciting like a popstar or actress, but I think teaching would have been a different path I would have enjoyed going down.

Who are your favourite people from the industry?

My boss and all my clients (obviously)!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career?

Treat people the way you want to be treated. Talk to people the way you want to be talked to.

And what piece of advice would you give somebody starting out in the sector?

Feel confident so you can reach for opportunities. They are rarely offered, they’re seized.

You’re entertaining industry contacts. Where do you take them, and why?

The Alchemist – the cocktails are literally explosive! My favourite is the Bubble Bath.

What are you reading at the moment?

The Rules of Life by Richard Templar. It details the guiding principles that help you get more out of life and generally be a happier, more fulfilled person. I’ll keep you posted!

And what are you listening to?

Anything Ed Sheeran!

Which five guests would you invite to your ideal dinner party?

Ed Sheeran for the music, Peter Kay for the humour, Jamie Oliver to cook the food, Marilyn Monroe for the stories and my mum for the memories. What a night that would be!

Something or someone for Room 101?

Unnecessary bad language especially when exposed to young children.

What items do you never leave home without?

Keys, mobile phone and make up – in that order!

What’s your biggest achievement – career or otherwise?

My lovely children. I am so proud of them.

What is your ideal holiday?

Anywhere hot with a swimming pool and most definitely with my husband and kids.

What would be your ideal weekend?

A getaway weekend to the beautiful Lake District. We go there regularly and it’s one of the few places where I can switch off instantly.

Three words to describe yourself?

Professional, personable and honest.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Oh no dare I say it, reality TV shows. Once I start watching, I’m hooked!

What has been your worst/most boring job you’ve ever had?

Probably my first job when I was 15. I worked as a General Assistant for a large retail store. I learned a great deal, but it wasn’t the career path for me. Let’s just say, every little helps!

What single fact would surprise people the most about you?

Everyone in my house is football crazy so I spend most of my time watching either my boys play or LFC play! Hosting our Employability events at football stadiums is perfect for me!
