Ri5 Profile: Lee Biggins

Ri5 Profile: Lee Biggins

It seems surprising that it's taken this long for Lee Biggins, Managing Director and Founder of CV-Library, to be the subject of the Ri5 profile... good things come to those who wait:

How did you first get into the industry?

I was trying to find a job and became frustrated that there wasn’t a one-stop shop for candidates and recruiters. This sparked me to come up with the idea of CV-Library, and the rest is history!

Would you do the same again?

Absolutely – but hopefully with the power of hindsight. I’m currently doing it in the US all over again which is very exciting.

What would you do if you didn’t do this?

I started out as a carpet fitter working for my dad, so probably that. Or maybe a cruise consultant – with the hope that I could get away on a few cheeky trips too!

Who are your favourite people from the industry?

Of course the team at CV-Library, but I also love bantering with the competition.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career?

“CV-Library will never work” - this just made me 100 times more determined to make it happen.

And what piece of advice would you give somebody starting out in the sector?

You’ll need a lot of money to make a job board work, the US companies keep throwing millions at it and failing!

What’s your favourite recruitment ad?

The Army or Royal Navy adverts are always excellent.

And what’s your favourite non-recruitment ad?

I’m currently loving the John Lewis ‘Monster’ advert – but the ‘what will you be when you grow up’ Barbie ad is also awesome!

You’re entertaining industry contacts. Where do you take them, and why?

Sexy Fish in London – DJ, sushi and cocktails, need I say more?

What are you reading at the moment?

Emails, more emails and even more emails.

And what are you listening to?

Usually old school house music.

What are your top three films?

Man on Fire / Seven Pounds / American History X

What’s your biggest achievement – career or otherwise?

Definitely CV-Library, I’m very unsuccessful in my personal life, hopefully that will change!

Who’s your biggest hero, and why?

My dad – he taught me a lot about working hard to achieve success and gave me the work ethic that I have today.

What is your ideal holiday?

Exploring on the water.

Three words to describe yourself?

Energetic / determined / annoying.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

The TV show ‘Ex on the Beach’.
