RateMyApprenticeship’s Top 100 Employers Table 2018-19

BAE Systems has risen to the top spot in RateMyApprenticeship’s Top 100 Employers Table, moving up the rankings from second place last year. The global defense, security and aerospace systems organisation topped the Table securing an impressive average review score of 8.70 out of 10, with 99% of their apprentices responding “yes” to “Would you recommend your programme to a friend?”

The rankings are based on over 4,200 reviews from apprentices and school leavers incorporating ratings from a variety of schemes, including apprenticeships (Level 2 to Level 7), traineeships, gap year programmes and work experience opportunities.

The reviews that build the Top 100 Table ask apprentices about all aspects of their programme ranging from amount of responsibility given, the training and development opportunities as well as whether students feel valued by colleagues and their overall impressions of the company.

Amongst BAE Systems were National Grid in 2nd place and construction company BAM Nuttall, coming in as a new entrant to the Table straight into 3rd position, with the BBC close behind in 4th place.

Ollie Sidwell, Co-founder at RateMyApprenticeship.co.uk commented: "The Top 100 Employers Table celebrates forward-thinking companies leading the way in apprenticeships and work experience schemes for young people.”

He adds, "a huge congratulations goes out to BAE Systems that have been recognised by their apprentices as this year's winner. With the Table based solely on the honest feedback of young people on apprenticeships and work experience schemes, this is a fantastic achievement!"

Mark Pritchard, Early Careers Recruitment Manager at BAE Systems said: "We are incredibly humbled to be named the top apprenticeship employer in the UK by RateMyApprenticeship, especially as it’s based exclusively on the experiences and feedback of our own apprentices.

"We are extremely invested in our apprenticeship programme at BAE Systems. We have a lot of support from the top down, with several of the company’s senior directors starting off as apprentices themselves. We are proud to be rated as Ofsted Outstanding as a trainer, and we provide multiple opportunities for apprentices to develop their skills in areas such as teamwork, confidence building and outward thinking.

"As noted in RateMyApprenticeship’s recent research, we believe it’s important to pay our apprentices a competitive wage. We support this further by running finance courses to help our apprentices learn how to manage their money and develop their budgeting skills. We also provide mentors and buddies for apprentices so they are supported from the very first moment they join our programme."
