Media Bites

Welcome to the July edition of Media Bites – your bite-sized guide to what’s happening in media land this month…

Bright Network

The careers network for students and graduates, Bright Network, has announced the launch of Ignite, a cutting-edge online platform to connect high-growth, entrepreneurial businesses with the best quality, entry level talent.

The new platform uses innovative technology to allow graduate talent to create and customise profiles that reflects their skills and interests. Hiring managers can also create job searches and interact with chosen candidates directly.

The platform also enables more efficient use of data and tagging to enable employers to more easily search and shortlist suitable graduates.

This month saw Jobsgopublic launch 2 major campaigns for Cambridgeshire County Council and UK Export Finance.

Their head hunting service, SmartSearch, has also helped to fill major roles that included Epsom and Ewell’s new Chief Executive post.

Jobsgopublic’s Let’s talk Digital event, held at Donnington Park, Leicestershire, was organised and hosted by Fiona Thompson, Head of People Management at Lincolnshire County Council and PPMA East Midlands Regional Chair, and was attended by HR and OD professionals, local authority IT leads, NHS organisations and fire authorities.

Jobsgopublic also welcomes new team members, Nicole as Client Partnership Executive, plus Laila and Matt as Media Sales Executives.

London-based, youth career network, has revealed its new look online. The company has spent several months designing and developing a new logo and increased functionality across a site already popular with brands wishing to engage with and employ young people.

As well as a more attractive interface that is designed around the differing needs of the student, parents and career advisors, a new ‘follow’ feature is built in for employer and university profiles.

This allows users to access content by switching on notifications for their favourite businesses and universities, who are encouraged to post exciting and educational content in the form of articles, news stories, case studies and videos, for example.

The site also incorporates simplified search functionality to give users a more focused experience, and The Clearing Guide, which is designed to help students navigate the process and secure their place at university.

Trinity Mirror

July saw Trinity Mirror regional titles run the first in a series of network specials aimed at supporting the businesses in local markets.

The week-long initiative ran simultaneously across 20 of the group’s regional news brands, both in digital and print, and focused on the skills and apprenticeship options available to those just leaving school.

Targeted at school leavers, the content featured information essential to those thinking about their next step in further education, apprenticeship or employment, alongside exclusive editorial features.

Trinity Mirror says the useful, shareable content generated a million page views.

For local and national businesses, the exercise provided an opportunity to advertise their offerings, appearing directly alongside the editorial content to ensure maximum relevancy and impact.

ICAEW’s BASE is a national competition aimed at connecting employers with the next generation of talent. BASE also sets out to help develop young people’s employability skills and awareness of the world of work, as well as giving business leaders the opportunity to find out what motivates the next generation of talent.

In encouraging schools and businesses to work together to address the skills gap, 250 students aged 16-19 from across the UK discovered what it’s like to walk in the shoes of finance professionals. Students were set a fictitious challenge and asked to act as ICAEW chartered accountants, focusing on employability skills to develop business advice and deliver this to their board of directors.

Speaking at the final Gillian Curle Financial Controller at Sky plc said: “I was delighted to take part in BASE and meet so many enthusiastic and talented young people – the future of business is certainly in safe hands! It’s important for young people to start thinking about the skills employers need before they begin to apply for jobs but employers also have a vital role to play in this process.  I would urge more schools and businesses to get involved in competitions like BASE and work together to improve skills.”

The BASE final concludes a series of 43 regional competitions involving around 500 teams from schools and FE colleges.

For the second year in a row, CareersinAudit has taken the title of 'Best Specialist Job Board' at the prestigious 2017 Global Recruiter UK Industry Awards.

The job board group has also expanded with the launch of a third specialist job board specifically for the Cyber Security and Data Protection industry in preparation for the GDPR regulations coming in 2018. CareersinCyberSecurity covers all Cyber and Technology Risk roles for the UK and European markets and is fast becoming the job board of choice for this sector.

Recently launched, GenieJobs aims to be a career network platform serving both recruiters and jobseekers with its jobs board, video interviewing technology and a recruitment networking platform.

Setting out to be a one stop shop for jobseekers, the platform aims to recreate the power of face-to-face interviews and presentations, offers a helpful guide to preparing for interview and advice on helping candidates to stand out with a profile and video introduction.

For employers, the site offers a complete package of tools to find and attract high quality candidates across all sectors, including an easy to use profile creator that can easily incorporate a company logo and upload a company introduction video.

Employers can also use innovative functionality to send potential candidates questions and carry out dozens of online interviews quickly and effectively.

The platform is free for jobseekers and is backed by a national online marketing campaign and TV commercial set to roll out in the coming weeks.

Gorkana jobs is currently undergoing a rebrand that to date includes a new logo and will see many changes to the site over the coming months.

The Civil Service has renewed its partnership with Mumsnet Jobs, the UK’s biggest site for family-friendly, flexible executive roles, for the second year in a row.

The collaboration is part of Mumsnet’s mission to make Mumsnet Jobs the destination for family friendly job vacancies, which a fifth of Mumsnet users describe as ‘priceless’.  The two most popular searches on Mumsnet Jobs are ‘flexible working’ and ‘returnships’.

The renewal was prompted by a successful campaign for MI6 spy recruitment that made headlines. Many mums who met the brief for the ‘creative, empathetic and intuitive’ Intelligence Officer roles applied and, as part of the Civil Service’s ongoing commitment to offering employees flexible working hours, over 300 Civil Service roles have already been advertised to Mumsnet users.

Technojobs is growing with the addition of new account manager, Emily, joining their advertising agency team.
