Mandy Eldridge RIP

Ri5 has received the sad news that Mandy Eldridge, a well-known figure from the recruitment comms world, has died.

John Langford pays tribute to Mandy:

Mandy started her career at Rileys (or was it Royds, too long ago to remember, it might have been both) and was one of the founding team of TCS Advertising in March 1988, where she stayed until the merger with Barkers Advertising in 2007. A couple of months short of 20 years.

She then moved back to the original home of TCS in Bayswater, to TCS Media as a Media Planner for the last 9 years, leaving in early 2017.

Mandy was something of a legend in the industry having been responsible for the training of many people who today hold senior roles in agencies. I am sure there will be those reading this who learned that there were only two approaches to administration of job bags; the wrong way and Mandy’s way.

The term ‘life and soul of the party’ may be a cliché, but it certainly applied in Mandy’s case and her energy and sense of fun made up a great deal of the character of TCS. Never one to shy away from speaking truth to power, nobody was safe from being ‘Mandied’ when she decided to act as advocate for some junior member of staff or challenge an injustice.

If you had a problem, you took it to Mandy.

As news of her passing spread I was contacted by ex-colleagues who despite decades of separation, expressed a very real sense of loss and unfairness that she had been taken so young. I suppose she had always been there for people and so we all assumed she always would be.

She passed away after a short illness, leaving behind her husband Mark, who many will remember also worked for TCS and WMW, and her son Max.

Her funeral was attended by many friends from the industry and took place at Manor Park Crematorium on 11th August. It was a sunny day and she was given an excellent send off, with laughter as well as tears. She would have approved.

The TCS diaspora will be organising a get together to share fond memories later in the year. Any old friends from the media who’d like to know the time and venue, pop me a message via Facebook.

This is terribly sad news. I managed to persuade Mandy to join me at Royds - I stole her from Rileys Jon - back in the early 80's. She was a breath of fresh air and the ultimate professional. As well as being hard working she also enjoyed herself and I remember the many fun times we had together with the team at Royds. Mandy will remain a real legend of the business and she will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with her family. RIP Mandy

Really really very sad to hear the news. Far too young. When I worked with Mandy at Royds she was very particular with proof reading which was excellent. But she was always fun on a night out. My thoughts and sympathies are with her family. Ray
