Kew Green Hotels working with Premier League Rugby to narrow hospitality skills gap


Kew Green Hotels are launching a new ‘Masterchef’ style initiative designed in collaboration with Premiership Rugby’s HITZ Clubs to inspire young people to build a career in hospitality.

An industry-leading hotel owner and operator that continues to grow rapidly, Kew Green offers a range of career opportunities across international brands inclusive of IHG: Holiday Inn and Express and Crowne Plaza, Hilton and Marriott, as well as various independents. 

HITZ is Premiership Rugby’s award-winning education and employability programme which works with more than 2,000 NEET 14-18 year olds (not in education, employment or training).

Throughout March, HITZ students from each of the 13 Premier Rugby League professional member clubs will be invited to a ‘Masterchef’ experience and careers event at their nearest Kew Green Hotel.

The event includes a hotel tour and an opportunity to meet the hotel leadership team and staff to find out about the breadth of opportunities.

Students will also meet the Head Chef and kitchen team and be shown how to make a healthy budget meal of chicken & mushroom wellington, parmesan mash, roasted red onion, carrots and an onion sauce. They’ll then be supported by kitchen staff to recreate this meal in what will become a national competition to find the best dish across the 13 HITZ clubs.

The winner will not only receive a financial award, but also the offer of an apprenticeship for Kew Green Hotels 2019 Chef School Foundation Apprenticeship Programme.

Kew Green Hotels see this project not only as important to their future talent pipeline, given the reduced number of young people entering the Hospitality industry, but also as an opportunity to impact positively on the lives and futures of young people who have been discouraged from entering the sector.
