Glassdoor publishes list of ‘best places to work in the UK’

For the first time, Glassdoor has published a list of the best places to work in the UK, to accompany its list of the best places to work in the US, which is now in its seventh year.

The workplace review site’s list of the top 25 employers in the UK was topped by Google, which was joined in the top five by John Lewis, Microsoft, Accenture and Jaguar Land Rover.

The other employers in the top ten were JP Morgan, Three, Cisco Systems, Deloitte UK and PwC.

Organisations were ranked based on employee feedback shared on Glassdoor via a survey on the site. As part of the survey, employees were asked what it’s like to work at their company and were asked to rate their overall satisfaction alongside factors such as work-life balance, compensation and benefits and career advancement opportunities.

In addition, employees shared the benefits and downsides of working at their respective companies and were also encouraged to offer advice to senior management.

Employees were also asked whether they would recommend their employer to a friend, and what their opinion is on the company’s business outlook in the next six months.

Taking top spot, Google – which also came first in the US list - was described by employees as “The best place to work in the industry right now; amazing people and brilliant culture.

“Very cool culture, amazing people, offices to die for, some of the most innovative projects anywhere on the planet, flat organisation, leaders who understand the challenges facing the organisation.”
