Our latest round-up of news, announcements from the agency world. This month sees a packed edition, with plenty of updates on the awards, client and people fronts


The team at SMRS presented at the In-House Recruitment Network London conference with myDentist, highlighting the importance of employer branding and work they’re doing with them.

SMRS were Higher Education partners at YMS18 LDN conference where they ran a number of sessions, panel discussions and a masterclass in the Higher Education Stream.

They will be presenting Kerry Foods’ employer brand story at The FIRM London Spring Conference on 26th April.  In addition they will be presenting at WhatUni Insights Day conference, together with Birmingham City University.

SMRS won two awards at the FIRM Awards: ‘Best Development of an Employer Brand’ for their work with Kerry Foods, and ‘Outstanding Impact Transformation & Change’ for their work with Balfour Beatty.

SMRS are shortlisted for an impressive six awards at Thursday’s Employer Brand Management Awards for their Work with Mencap (2) and Kerry Foods (4).

They recently celebrated their 20th birthday in employer and education marketing.

Talent Works

It’s been an exciting couple of months at Talent Works with some major new client wins, including Elsevier and Nationwide to name but a few.

As Talent Works’ client base grows as does the team – this month they welcomed Junior Designer, Sophia Dobreva, to the UK team.

Talent Works have been busy working on a global campaign proposition for one of the biggest technology companies in Europe, Amadeus. April marks the launch of the Amadeus Technology & Platforms Engineering (TPE) microsite and supporting campaign. In addition to a microsite and further locations for phase 2, they have created a media plan to support the launch, with animation content and a paid social media activation - targeting a range of audiences, including opportunities to relocate within Europe. In total they're aiming to fill 400-500 tech vacancies for Amadeus this year.

In other news, the team are in the midst of launching a new event series with the first event focusing on where digital can take your recruitment strategy. More news to follow!


It’s been a magic first quarter of the year for Jupiter. They’ve been working with Beaverbrooks, McCain, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Starbucks UK and Starbucks Reserve Roastery® in Milan on their Employer Brands.

Focus groups have highlighted how they can use messaging to better communicate the personalities of each, building their respective reputations in the wider public based on the positive realities of their workplace cultures.  Jupiter can’t wait to report back on their respective progress and how they’ve enhanced their reputations.

Jupiter are incredibly proud of a new partnership that will allow them to bring wider world perceptions of client workplaces into their Employer Branding offering.  Charlie McIntosh is a brand new business offering external perceptions insight into companies as employers. The business has signed an exclusive contract with Jupiter, enabling them to offer insight that goes above and beyond industry standard, giving their clients a true end-to-end candidate management offering.

For existing clients, it’s the opportunity to add knowledge to bolster development of their existing Employer Brands. For new clients, it’s just one more reason to partner with Jupiter on new Employer Branding projects.

Basis Media

Basis Media have had a great start to the year with new clients, new staff and the launch of additional products and yet more awards for their trophy cabinet.

Basis were winners at the FIRM Awards last month, taking home the award for ‘Best Career Website’ for Warburtons.  Of the six finalists in Best Website Category, three of the six nominations were Basis sites - HC One and Pizza Hut Restaurants making up the shortlist.

Basis are developing a number of new Careers Websites and recruitment solutions for new client Starbucks. The first for the new opening of the Milan Starbucks Reserve™ Roastery which signalled Starbucks’ entry into the Italian Coffee Market. More international sites for this Global Brand to follow soon.

NexGen by Basis continues its growth with Lakeland, Pizza Express, JD Sports, Signet, Poundland, Thwaites and Autoglass being just some of the new clients this month, using this next-generation ATS software.

Following the ‘Best Onboarding Strategy’ win at last year’s In-House Recruitment Awards for the NHS, Basis have successfully launched a cloud-based, app' driven, onboarding platform: DayOne. The solution, which has been developed over a number of years, has ASDA Walmart signed-up as the first business to use it.

Smart Resourcing Solutions

2018 continues to move at pace. They are at Anfield Stadium this month to run their first assessment simulation for the University of Liverpool, working with around 360 first year students from the Management School.  

With client University of Hertfordshire, they were delighted to win ‘Best Preparation for Work: Single Initiative Award’ at the ISE Development Awards, in recognition of the hugely successful Assessment Centre Experience (ACE) assessment simulation. Winning the award coincided with confirmation that they will be working with the university again and expanding ACE to support 2000 students.  

MD Sophie Milliken, has been awarded a place on the Northern Power Women Future List. A keen supporter of women in business and gender acceleration, Sophie is looking forward to working with other female leaders who have joined the list. 

Barry Davison joined the team at the end of March as Employer Partnerships Manager. Barry will lead the growth on the Employer side of the business focusing on assessment design, RPO support and L&D. 

Finally, on 12th April, Smart Resourcing Solutions turned 5 - a huge achievement for any small business. The team celebrated in style with a special dinner and enjoyed celebrating with clients on the day itself. 


A great three months for SBW, their brilliant Senior Account Executive Caitlin returned to their Cardiff Office after 12 months travelling around Australia.  SBW also welcomed a new writer to the team, Scarlett, and a Designer, Grace.

SBW were successful with three tenders, one being a really interesting employer branding project for a Health Board, another to run advertising to promote positive parenting across Wales and the third to work with the Welsh Government promoting pride in the Valleys region. And the cherry on the top is that they’ve been nominated for a Roses Award for their ‘time to talk’ film. It will be a big night in Manchester on May 10th

After a difficult 2017, 2018 has started really well.


TMP has had a busy few months with 18 new joiners since the start of the year including: Emma Brewer in the Assessment Team, Charlotte Anstey as Media Campaign Manager and Emma Beckley returning as Client Relationship Director.

TMP have had success at a number of awards including winning Best Supplier Partnership – as nominated by the AA – at The FIRM Awards.

What’s more they’ve been nominated for five Recruiter Awards including: Best Candidate Experience, Most Effective Employer Brand and Outstanding Outsourced Recruitment Organisation.

Client work has been busy and varied, including numerous campaigns and brand work for Sainsbury’s, Arcadia, Bombardier, HMRC and DEFRA – to mention just a few. And pitches include everything from leading charities through to global EVP projects.

Their Drink ‘n’ Draw evening at the Hoxton Hotel was a success – introducing some clients to life drawing for the first time. The wine certainly helped to get rid of any inhibitions and some great work was created.


AIA are thrilled to welcome their latest client, IKEA, to the AIA Worldwide family. They will be working to deliver a global website in 35 languages. It’s a huge job, but one that they have hit the ground running with. To support them with this and the many other projects they have going on, they have hired four new members of staff.

In March, AIA exhibited at UNLEASH (previously HR Tech World), chatting to attendees and giving them a chance to win a cool tech prize in their padlock combination contest. The event was a success and they’re already planning for the Amsterdam leg in October.

At the NUE awards, there were celebrations as their client, Marks and Spencer, took home the award for Best Recruitment Marketing Campaign.

Closing on some charity news, so far this year twenty-one employees have taken part in a volunteer day at Ace of Clubs, which is a community charity that supports the homeless and vulnerable in South London. They have also raised money for Marie Curie during their Wear Yellow Breakfast. Currently, they’re all swotting up for the famed annual AIA Quiz. Proceeds from this year’s quiz will be split between Macmillan and MIND.
