What to do with ‘corporate prisoners'?

The Recruitment Society's next London event, on the evening of Tuesday 23rd February, will look at new research by talent consultancy Chiumento into one of the problems affecting many organisations in the current climate - namely, what to do with the increasing number of workers ‘stuck' in jobs they'd otherwise leave.  The recently-completed study - the first formal research on the subject - identifies six different kinds of ‘corporate prisoner', and aims to quantify the scale of the problem in a way that will enable organisations to look at themselves more critically and set benchmarks for managing existing difficulties and possible solutions.  The session will conclude by considering how recruitment professionals can contribute to a ‘managing prisoners' strategy, focusing on the integration of talent strategy with effective tactical resourcing.

The speakers are Ian Gooden and David Wightman, respectively director of people solutions and head of business development at Chiumento, and the event is being hosted by the Financial Times and exec-appointments.com at 1 Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 9HL.  As usual, it will start at 6:00 for 6:30pm, with the formal presentation running till around 7:45pm and refreshments thereafter till the 9:00pm close.  And, also as usual, attendance is free for members and costs £25 for anybody else.  You can either book and pay online, or alternatively reserve your place by contacting the Society's administrator, Val Hiscock, via val.hiscock@recruitmentsociety.org.uk.  (As ever, advance booking is required to guarantee admission.)

US and UK experiences of online recruitment

A day later, on Wednesday 24th February, the Online Recruitment Marketing Council will be comparing US and UK experiences of online recruitment.  In the heady early days of online, it was usually said that the US led and Europe followed.  However the UK is now seen to lead Europe and, in many ways, the US in online applications.  Presented by Larry Cucchi of PeopleClick, the ORMC session will analyse the respective practices and how they manifest themselves in terms of service quality and delivery, thus providing an opportunity to review differences in transatlantic approaches and consider the lessons to be learnt.

The venue is PeopleClick's offices at 15 Fetter Lane, London EC4A 1BW, starting at 6:00pm.  If you're interested in attending, please contact Richard Taylor, ORMC administrator, on 020 7917 1728 or email membership@ormc.org.uk.

Small Circle St Patrick's Day event

On the lighter side, the Small Circle will be hosting a St Patrick's Day event at the Priory, 53 St John's Square, Clerkenwell on Wednesday 17th March.  It's scheduled to run from 7pm till late, and it will cost you just three quid to get in (payable on the door).

Onrec's 2010 trade conference

On the afternoon of Wednesday 31st March - preceding the annual Onrec awards, which take place later that evening - Onrec will be hosting a trade conference offering "a fantastic learning and networking opportunity" for online recruitment suppliers, job-boards and other industry professionals.  The conference agenda will cover key issues affecting the industry as well as forward-looking trends.    Speakers will include Blake Lapthorn partner Bridget Wood on the impact and opportunities of proposed changes to recruitment sector legislation for job-boards and online recruiters; Broadbean MD Dan Maguire on the latest industry statistics; David Chernick of KPMG Forensic with an update on job fraud and the threats generated by financial turbulence; and Carr-Michael Consulting partner Andrew Lester on how to drive cash and growth in the online recruitment market.  The conference will end with a discussion session which will see TheLadders MD Derek Pilcher joining the panel of experts.
