Forthcoming conference activity

The CIPD has already lined up its next two London-based ‘Spotlight on...' one-day conferences, focusing on employer branding (Tuesday 12th May) and employee engagement (Tuesday 9th June) respectively.

Beyond this, chief executive Jackie Orme will be taking the chair at the annual People Summit, at the QEII conference centre on Thursday 11th June and hosted jointly by the CIPD and ACAS.  A "senior government minister" is promised as keynote speaker.  It will also be holding a recruitment, resourcing & performance conference at London's Olympia Conference Centre (Hammersmith Road, W14 8UX) on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th June.

This will comprise four targeted half-day events, which can be booked in any combination for maximum flexibility.  The Wednesday agenda features recruitment (am) and resourcing (pm), while the Thursday pairs talent management (am) with ‘inspiring high performance' (pm).

Looking more specifically at the recruitment (Wednesday morning) agenda, topics will include sharing the findings of the CIPD's 2009 recruitment, retention and turnover survey, how to manage the "deluge" of applicants generated by today's tight job market, recruiting on a budget - including whether it's easier to keep a handle on costs by bringing the recruitment process totally in-house - and measuring recruitment expenditure.

An exhibition of recruitment suppliers will run concurrently with both days of the conference.

Onrec's fourth annual online recruitment conference and exhibition is due to take place at Westminster's QE II Conference Centre on Tuesday 2nd June.  This year, the central theme is ‘Preparing for the upturn - how to exploit new technologies and search tactics to save time and money', making it "a must-attend event for corporate recruiters looking to recruit effectively for less."

Topics are set to include how to use social networks effectively to recruit, how to build employer brand, how to ensure corporate careers sites stand out from the crowd, how candidates use Google (and how this knowledge can help recruiters to get in front of them), and how to select the right talent from the burgeoning pool of CVs.

Finally, if you were worried that you might have missed our report on employer branding from a global perspective, don't be.  The 2009 London ‘Employer Brand Global Initiative', initially scheduled for Tuesday 21st April, never took place.  (In the event, it was a non-event.)
